Letter Writing

Blood Cancer United will print, stuff, and mail all your letters for you! 

1. Download a copy of the Contact List to get started. Save the file as 'First Name Last Name Contact List'. *Do not edit the formatting of the spreadsheet*

• Pull together 1 list of all the people you plan to send emails, letters, phone calls, texts, etc. to.

  • Family

  • Friends

  • Neighbors

  • Coaches

  • Teachers

  • Parents' co-workers

• Build your list gradually as a family!

• Utilize the 40 Contacts in 4 minutes document to help you brainstorm.

2. Download one of the Fundraising Letter Templates and update with your information. Save the file as 'First Name Last Name Letter'.

   • On mailing envelopes and in your letter, use your name and address so that checks are mailed directly to you

3. Fill out the Letter Submission Form below by November 24, 2025.

Letter Writing & Emails Tips and Tricks 

Letters and emails are a highly effective and efficient fundraising method!

• Share your WHY! Connect people with your passion - MAKE IT PERSONAL. Share facts about Blood Cancer United and your reasons for supporting the cause.

• Share your fundraising goal - show that you're doing something big and need their help in a big way!

• Set a deadline for donations.

• Tell your recipient that their gift is fully tax deductible.

• Provide your URL for online donations (supporters tend to donate 20% more online!)

Formatting 

• Proper use of Blood Cancer United:

  • Capitalize each word

  • Do not abbreviate Blood Cancer United

• All cancer/disease names should be lower case with a few exceptions:

  • Hodgkin (ex. non-Hodgkin's lymphoma)

  • T-cell or B-cell (ex. stage 4 B-cell lymphoma)

  • Burkitt (ex. Burkitt lymphoma)

  • Alzheimer's

Tips & Tricks

• Set a goal to make 10 calls per week OR divide the list among team members, family, and friends OR host a call party!

  • Utilize the Personal Ask Phone script template.

• Keep a master list of everyone who has donated.

• Don't be afraid to ask for what you want! You can always role play with Blood Cancer United staff or friends to get comfortable. 

• Tailor/Customize the message to the person you're speaking with.

• Connect them with you personal mission and communicate your WHY!
