Day 2 – Sponsored by the 2000 – 2001 Molson Greco Fastball Team Alumni
As the sun rose over the site for Day 2, a beautiful rainbow in the sky was a good omen for what proved to be a great day of dog work.
Today the judges had prepared a simulated duck hunt in a beautiful cattail rimmed pond. There were several dozen Avery mallard duck decoys in the pond and numerous black duck decoys in the adjacent field. The test was a water triple with a fourth mark thrown as a diversion when the dog was returning with the “Go Bird”. The Right bird was thrown first (R – L) at 55 yards and landed in cattails on the far bank of the pond. The center mark was thrown second (L – R) and landed in a patch of long grass on the far bank of the pond. The left bird was thrown third (R – L) from a winger and two shots were fired when the bird was at the top of it’s arc. The left bird landed in a patch of long grass and goldenrod. When the working dog was returning with the left-hand bird, a diversion mark was launched from a winger located to the right side of the point of origin. The diversion landed in the pond approximately 25 yards from the running line. After picking up the marks, the working dog was asked to run a water blind of approximately 88 yards. The line to the blind was close to the left shoreline, just past the tip of a point and then angled across the pond to the far shore.
Work on this series was generally very good. When the callbacks were given at the end of the day there were only 2 dogs dropped (Dogs 29 and 47). 40 dogs Have been called back to participate in the Day 3 Upland Test. Dog # 26 will start day 3.
