President Lan, drawing on his experience as Vice Chancellor at the University of Western Sydney, incorporated various SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) indicators to enhance the significance of the activity. Specifically, these SDG indicators include carbon footprint calculation, tree planting, beach and ocean cleanups, and the conservation of Chinese white dolphins. The campaign saw President Lan and his team planting trees across Taiwan, traveling from north to south and west to east to promote sustainability. During their last planting site at Aletheia University, they reached a milestone of cycling 1000 kilometers. Moreover, President Lan and his team engaged in beach-cleaning activities on the coast of Baishatun, Checheng, and Baisha Bay. Also, in order to understand the importance of marine conservation, they visited the Chinese white dolphin house in Taiwan Glass Gallery to take a glimpse of the ocean ecology in Taiwan.

According to Professor B.C. Chen from the Department of English Language and Literature, this event emphasizes the “S” in ESG, representing societal contribution. She shared, “By cycling around Taiwan instead of driving, participants reduce carbon dioxide emissions, reinforcing the university’s commitment to environmental sustainability”. Moreover, health is also a critical value for President Yi-zheng Lan, who actively promotes activities like road running and marathons. Through this cycling initiative, the team fosters environmental awareness and showcases Fu Jen Catholic University’s commitment to health and global engagement. Along the journey, President Yi-zheng Lan introduced various activities, such as beach cleaning and tree planting, further demonstrating societal responsibility. These efforts align with public service goals, contributing to a cleaner environment and a more sustainable future. By engaging in such initiatives, the university highlights its dedication to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those focusing on health, sustainability, and community development. This event also enhances the university’s reputation as an institution that values holistic growth and global responsibility. Under President Yi-Zheng Lan’s leadership, Fu Jen Catholic University exemplifies a forward-thinking approach, integrating health, environmental stewardship, and societal contributions to create a lasting impact locally and globally.
An anonymous student expressed particular appreciation for the event’s alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including initiatives like tree planting, beach cleaning, and raising awareness of white dolphin conservation. “It’s inspiring to see how the university uses this event to address global issues like environmental protection while fostering a sense of responsibility in students.” She states that it is really creative that students could exercise while achieving SDGs.She also admired President Yi-zheng Lan’s involvement in the tour. “It’s amazing that our university president took part and led by example. It shows how much he cares about health, the environment, and community building,” she said. She added that it made her think about joining the event in the future. In her opinion, the tour reflects the university’s modern and caring approach. “Even though I didn’t join, I feel proud to be part of a university that cares about more than just studies. It also focuses on helping others and protecting the environment.”
In fact, not only has President Lan initiated activities that cycle around Taiwan but Pan Neng-yao, the principal of Jiaxing Junior High School, also believes in the power of exercise for both physical health and positive thinking. An aspiring marathon runner and cycling enthusiast, Pan planned a cycling event with students at Jiaxing Junior High. Equipped with 40 mountain bikes and 20 road bikes, he aims to lead a safe, well-organized ride around Taiwan next year. The event will emphasize safety and training, reflecting Pan's belief in the value of regular exercise for personal growth and well-being.
