Google Maps

When to use Google Maps

Google Maps is the most commonly used of the Google mapping platforms - this is what you use on your phone to get directions to a restaurant, for example. The content that is displayed on Google Maps is curated by Google. If you save locations on Google Maps your content is saved in your Google Account but is not viewable by others. Google Maps does have 3D imagery and Street View, and can be embedded in your website.

What you'll need to use Google Maps

  1. You'll need to use a desktop computer, laptop, phone or tablet.

  2. Connect your device to the internet to access map. If you cache the map tiles by zooming to the locations you wish to access, you can then go offline.

  3. On a laptop open a web browser and go to https://www.google.com/maps on a mobile device open the Google Maps app (you will need to download it for use on iPhones and iPads).

  4. Sign in with your Google account or create a Google Account in order to save locations and access your Google My Maps through the Google Maps app.
