Renwal's Skysweeper was one of my first plastic model kits,  far more elaborate than anything I had tried to build up until then.  I bought it at W.T. Grant's in downtown Ashland on a night when my father took me to a movie (Sleeping Beauty?).   I still have the model but not the box.

1950's Tonka Low Boy Truck & Trailor with Rubber Track Steam Shovel

 This was the Holy Grail of my toy collection as it was my first large metal truck (about 1954) and the first to be consigned to a rummage sale by my mother,  leaving my memory of it too obscure for me to track it down a half century later.  I finally found these photos of it and the memories came flooding back,  helped by the fact that this example is the same color.

A portion of the Zorro Playset by Marx.  The figure is Zorro (Guy Williams) on his black horse Tornado.  The opening in the mountain is the cave where Tornado was stabled,  which was under the De la Vega hacienda and could be entered through a hidden panel in Don Diego's bedroom.

1950's "The Thunderburp",  billed as a realistic replica of a sub-machine gun.  It was only 16" long but did not need caps or batteries to produce its chattering burst of fire.  The grooves are supposed to be an air-cooled muzzle.  Although I did not own one,  these were around the neighborhood in the late 1950's and I often borrowed one.  Unfortunately hard play quickly broke the bolt action mechanism and without vibration or sound they were relatively useless in our backyard war games.  Made by Mattel,  the marketing genius who came up with silly soda pop sounding name (a play on the term "burp" gun) probably contributed little to sales because I don't recall any of us ever calling it by that name once the packaging had been thrown away.  However, the long forgotten name has made it difficult for aging boomers to search for it on line.
