What are Scouts?
Scouts are 10½ to 14 year olds and as a collection are called a Troop.
At this age, we encourage girls and boys to take responsibility for themselves and each other, with older members leading a small team. Like Cubs and Beavers, they are grouped in smaller teams called a Patrol. A senior Scout leads the Patrol and is called a Patrol Leader (PL) and assisted by an Assistant Patrol Leader (APL). They like being with friends and participating fully in the adventure of life. In the Troop Scouts:
Develop leadership skills
Learn emergency aid
Spend nights away – camps are often the highlights of the year
Help others in the community
Cook, both at home and at camp
Adventurous and sporting activities – anything from abseiling to zorbing
Learn survival skills
Making new friendships locally and potentially across the globe
They are led by the Scout Leader and her team of Leaders and helpers who are all volunteers. They seem to have a great deal of fun as well.
