The Group Trustees are a collection of adults who help govern and support the group - a bit like school governors crossed with a parent/teacher association (PTA).

There are a range of parents and non-parents on the Board of Trustees to get a balanced viewpoint.

Our Chairperson is like a figurehead but is a proactive role,  and is accompanied by two further people - the Group Lead Volunteer and Treasurer. 

A UK Scout Group Trustee Board (formerly known as the Group Executive Committee) is a team of volunteers who act as charity trustees to ensure a local Scout Group is run safely, legally, and sustainably. While the leadership and section teams focus on delivering the day-to-day youth programme and activities, the Trustee Board operates behind the scenes, focusing entirely on governance, strategy, performance, and compliance. Their ultimate goal is to provide the operational stability and resource framework necessary for frontline volunteers to give young people "skills for life".

The board’s responsibilities broadly cover four main areas: managing finances, looking after property, mitigating risks, and ensuring legal compliance. Practically, this means managing the group's budget and membership fees, maintaining the scout hut or equipment, holding appropriate insurance, and keeping a comprehensive risk register. They are also legally responsible for ensuring the group strictly follows charity regulations and core Scout policies—such as safeguarding, safety, and data protection. Led by a Chair and supported by a Treasurer, the board produces the annual statement of accounts and hosts the group's Annual General Meeting (AGM) to remain transparent and accountable to the local community. 

The members bring thoughts, skills or connections for the Group. Some may focus on fundraising, others on adult recruitment or just generally helping out. 

Again all are volunteers and have to undertake some mandatory training to ensure they operate within the Charity Commission regulations as well as Scouts rulings and guidance. Training covers the ethos and values of Scouting, Safety and Safeguarding, plus GDPR.
