Don't be made to dance,

dance your own dance!

-A gathering to talk about the present and the future of the university-

Aren’t you giving up liberty which is being taken away?

In recent years, the Kyoto University has been restricting our activity. In this year, it prohibits us from displaying signs (tatekan) and tries to terrify us into moving out from the Yoshida Dormitory, ignoring our suggestions. They have relation to the reinforcement of control by the university authorities, making worse the conditions of employment for teachers, lowering the power of speak and eliminating them from the decision process.

It is obvious that the university authorities do away with not only the autonomous dormitories but also our rights in this stream. In the future, we won’t be able to display signs, publish fly sheets, and hold events without the censorship by the authorities. The university may prevent us from freely entering the campus. Moreover, it may be more difficult to research and study freely.

Since national universities were reorganized as independent administrative institution, what is of importance for us is decided by just eight trustees. The faculty meetings become titular. A plausible reformation is driving teachers to do chores. Can you give up what you are deprived of?

It is we that decide what is related to us.

A lot of things have been realized by the power of students. For instance, their power prevented the university from eliminating the stone wall of Hyakumanben (thank for this, we can lean signs on the wall) and reducing the number of those who are exempted from payments of tuition. The event space of the Yoshida Dormitory remains by the discussion between its users and the university. In the discussion, the university acknowledged that the space was one of trendsetting places creating cultural activity・and interaction ,and revoked the decision to demolish the space. The university decided to repair and utilize it after that.

We think that the autonomy is deciding what is important for us by discussion. However, it is the autonomy that is about to be destroyed. Why don’t you put a period to this situation? Why don’t you get together for sharing knowledge and display our intention?

We are to hold an assembly on 19th December!
