One week before our July, 2019 Best of Europe in 14 Days trip, Andrew had a run in with a power tool that took him directly to surgery to reattach the nerves and muscle in his lower leg. From the ER bed, he tried to reassure me, "We're still going, even if I have to be on crutches."
I knew better.
Unfortunately, we didn't purchase trip insurance. Fortunately, the Rick Steves Tour company gave us 50% credit so we could still take a trip when Andrew was better. Unfortunately, Andrew got better when Covid struck the world, and all the tours were cancelled for the next two summers. Fortunately, 2022 brought vaccines, masks, safety policies, and the tours were back on!
When preparing for our trip, we went to many in-person talks that were offered at the Rick Steves Edmonds Travel Center. We watched guides talk about all the regions we were visiting, how to pack, and some language classes. We also watched all the shows on PBS or DVDs. When we purchased our trips, we got free travel books! Andrew would read me to sleep many nights from the book, teaching us about art and architectural history.
With RS Tours back in full force, we treated ourselves to business class seats that come with the perks of business class lounges. Champagne? Why, yes, thank you!
We enjoyed the airport lounges in Seattle, Paris - CDG, and Helsinki, where we were delayed by two hours and did not mind at all! The food and drinks are free, delicious, and the bathrooms are clean and luxurious.
It was well worth the price of the upgrade for our long anticipated trip.
We're always up for an adventure! Maui, Costa Rica, roadtrips around the U.S. - we are usually outdoors and often in water! We travel because we love it and we want to see ALL THE THINGS! Hairy, shaved, thin, fat - we're out there soaking it all in however we can. But this trip to Europe was the one we anticipated the most.
