Create a Plan

Statistics, and math courses in general, can be intimidating. It is easy to deal with this apprehension by avoiding it. “If I never open the homework, I will never have to deal with it.” However, this leads to the worst feeling: having the exam approach and not even knowing where to start studying.

The easiest way to avoid this no good, awful feeling is to make a study plan and stick to it. Give yourself specific hours each week to work on this class. Turn off distractions and sit only with your homework for that time. It may be that you’ll need to spend this time in office hours, with our class tutor, or with another tutor from the tutoring center. Just be sure to find the time needed each week to spend exclusively on our class.

Peer Support

Practice positive, helpful peer support in and out of class. This is a vital life skill that will help you as a student and in your work life. There is no career where you are not required to work well with others at some point. Every job is essentially a long, elaborate group project. Now is a great time to learn or continue to practice how to make working with others fun and productive

Netiquette (Expected and Appropriate Behaviors within Online Learning Environments)

Students are expected to be respectful to the instructor and to fellow classmates in all communication formats (email, discussion boards, etc.) All writing and communication should use standard proper English (avoid slang, sarcasm, foul language) and correct spelling, grammar, and capitalization.

It is important to recognize that the online classroom is, in fact, a classroom, and certain behaviors are expected when you communicate with both your peers and your instructors. These guidelines for online behavior and interaction are known as netiquette.

Please review this video on the rules of nettiquette. If your behavior on discussion boards becomes disrespectful, I may remove you from the discussion or the course depending on the seriousness of the infractions. If you are removed from the discussion, you will receive a grade of zero for that discussion.
