For my Project 1, I chose to write a research proposal on the topic of music therapy for the oppression of racial minorities. I hit a couple of snags with this project. During this semester, we have completed RCA lessons through our online textbook to understand the research process and the rhetoric of writing about what we learn from said research. I understood from one of these lessons that we were supposed to pick topics in our research that were close to our heart. I have always found music to be therapeutic and wanted to dive deeper into the science of it.
My group's original "umbrella topic" was Racial Discrimination. When we first met as a group, we thought that this would be a very interesting main topic of research under our class focus of Oppression. I thought that we were supposed to change our personal topics after completing one of the RCA lessons - I was mistaken. Because of this, I struggled with my Project 1 research proposal. It was no easy task attempting to tie music therapy into racial discrimination. What you will read below is my best attempt to tie everything together in a succinct and rhetorical manner. I hope you learn something new or interesting while reading my research proposal on -
Music Therapy: A Cure for the Oppression of Racial Minorities.
