Mr. Schmidt

The Inquiry Center in the Primary Building is in room 178. The Inquiry Teacher is Mr. Schmidt and has been with the district for over 25 years. Mr. Schmidt services 1st through 3rd grade students. He travels between the Early Childhood School and the Primary School. In the Inquiry Center in grades 1st-3rd is mainly a pullout program with classes running from 4-8 weeks. Classes cover topics about art, math, science, literature and technology. Each year the Inquiry teachers look to add new and exciting offerings for the students. Course participation is based on teacher recommendations to the Inquiry teacher. In 2015 Victor Primary School was designated an Imagination Chapter and participates annually in the International Cardboard Challenge in October.

The following Goals shape Inquiry offerings:

  • Inquiry offerings are called Explorations and are designed to develop creative and critical thinkers.
  • Explorations will provide various types of STEAMS enrichment opportunities for students while maintaining flexibility in programming.
  • Students who engage in Explorations will demonstrate above-average ability, task commitment and creativity.
  • Offerings are through a push-in and/or pull out model.
  • Explorations will be designed to be flexible and supportive to teachers’ individual classroom needs.

HOW DOES MY CHILD PARTICIPATE IN THE INQUIRY PROGRAM?

Teachers select one (sometimes 2) students for each Inquiry Exploration that is offered.

For each course there are specific criteria but overall, we want students to be INTERESTED, COMMITTED, and CREATIVE.

Classroom teachers select students based on these criteria and the student’s schedule.

It's helpful to let the classroom teacher know about your child's interests.

What is STEAM?

Victor Central School’s Inquiry Program begins with the whole child. We are proud to nurture these traits and attitudes in all students.

The Victor Central School District incorporates the tenets of the School-wide Enrichment Model into its Inquiry Program.

The following Goals shape Inquiry offerings:

* Inquiry offerings are called Explorations and are designed to develop creative and critical thinkers.

* Explorations provide various types of STEAMS enrichment opportunities for students while maintaining flexibility in programming.

* Students who engage in Explorations will demonstrate above-average ability, task commitment and creativity.
