Semester 2

Scroll 4: March 15 - April 2

Part 1 - March 15 - 21: This week my house got the environmental club sticker job completed. We made 100 stickers, 50 of the mountain design and 50 of the shoe design. Sara, Sophia, and I designed them. Sophia and Alana printed them from the documents I made on the cricut program. Drew and Naomi cut them out. Sophia and I completed the quote calculator and sales draft and lastly I fulfilled the order by dropping them off.

For intern work this week we got some of the scripts recorded and we got Chloe a mic to be able to record the audio for each of the video. I need to clean the lab all next wee in preparation for students returning soon. We were filming the laser cutting video and the laser cutter wasn't vector cutting so I think there is something wrong with my Inkscape because it would vector cut other documents. It was very frustrating. We finally got it to laser cut though (the issue was with my Inkscape) so we finished filming the laser cutter video. We also didn't end up using the metal rack that Alana and I took a lot of time fixing to put in the lab because it looked tacky to Miller so I am going to need to get creative to find storage for a lot of things.

Part 2 - March 22 - 28: This week I have been in the lab cutting and sanding wood for the work benches. We need the space to store different things so we are trying to finish them up. Chloe and I went to lows to pick up wood and screws for the benches. Alana helped me with assembling them while I was cleaning and reorganizing the lab. We have almost 1 full work bench put together but I still need to cut some things and fix it up. Next week I need to finish building the work benches, test all the machines to make sure they work, put away extra materials and find places for things. I was lucky to have Cameron and Zen help me with filming the machine tutorial videos while I was building and reorganizing so those are still getting produced while I am doing other work.

For the house we got a prototype for earrings and coasters done. I deigned them from one of Shakti's drawings and then Sophia laser cut them for me because I was very busy in the lab working. They are pretty cool but I was still having the issue with Inkscape so we have to fix the design so it will vector cut and get another prototype done before making a limited run. The earring prototype is shown to the left.

Part 3 - March 29 - April 2: This week we didn't get much done house wise. We were mainly finishing up our projects that we started before the end of the quarter and spring break and getting all our ideas planned out for next semester so we produce a lot of quality products.

For intern work we almost finished the second work bench but we need more screws so I special ordered some to finish all 3 of the work benches. We rearranged things in the lab so that it is much cleaner and more organized for students returning to campus after spring break. We built a TV stand for Miller's room and got that all set up so it is ready to go (the TV stand looked like the one to the left but it was a little different). We checked the machines to make sure they were all running and they all were except the CNC machines so I will have to fix those later or update the computers so they will run. When we get back from spring break we will finish all the work benches and organize as much stuff as we can and get it all figured out.

Part 1 - March 1 - 7: This week we heard back from Environmental club. They are wanting 50 stickers of each of our designs. I am so unbelievably proud of my house for our hard work on the sticker designs. This week we also finished the house logo to put up on the wall in DTech. It took a long time because it was hard to glue all the tiny little rope pieces in but we finally got it done. I have been working on the other logo that we have which is the reverse colors that is going to end up in the lair (our house area where our circuits and other machines we have checked out of the lab are located. We are missing one rope piece but other than that it is all done. We are still going to cut some prototypes or coasters and earrings, but we have kinda been preoccupied with finishing up some projects already. We will hopefully get those prototypes done next week.

I have been doing a lot of intern work again. I cleaned the laser cutter lens so it run properly again. I have also put away materials that were ordered, set up the cricut heat presses, started cutting material for work benches, thrown away loads of garbage in the lab, and much more small cleaning and organizing. I plan to finish the work benches first so we can have some more area to store different machines and materials and then I want to rearrange and get rid of all the unnecessary things in the lab. There is a lot of unorganized and messy things in the lab, but I can't fix it until I get more room because otherwise I am just going to make it more chaotic. I also need to clean up the back area of storage we have for wood so the wood doesn't get more water damage or corroded and so there will hopefully be less spiders and gross stuff living back there. The last thing I need to do in the lab next week or soon while it is on my mind is clean out the silkscreen sink outside because it is so gross! There is a lot of built up ink and emulsion in it so I am planning to clean it out soon.

Part 2 - February 8 - 14: This week I am working on getting all the environmental stickers ready to print and cut all 100. We finished up the quote calculator for all 100 and are getting it check by Naomi (our financial minister for my house) and Mr. Li to make sure everything looks right and then send a sales draft to environmental club. We hope to print and possibly even cut everything on Monday so that if we have any issues we have time to fix them before the deadline of March 19th.

I have done a lot of intern work this week. I started filming some of the scripts on my computer and was able to film some parts of the laser cutting machine tutorial video yesterday with Zen and Cameron. We had some issues with the files though, so we have to cut it again and film the end sections to finish off that script. The laser cutter wasn't vector cutting the circle around the design (the design is shown to the left). Everything was set properly so I think it was an issue with the machine and I will have to try and fix it next week. We also got some fun footage of me literally freaking out because it wasn't running and we needed to get it done it was pretty funny. We might have a blooper video for all the upterns and interns of all of us breaking down at one point during work because nothing goes right. We still have to film all the audio and most of the videos and then edit everything together so it's going to be a lot of hard work to do.

With the help of Alana I also got a metal rack into the lab for all the 3D printer to be on. I wasn't able to arrange everything on it because I ran out of time but I will on Monday. I also need to do a lot of other work just organizing things and getting everything together. I scheduled another work time today (Friday) to get some more scripts done and get exactly what we need to film next week prepared and set up so its hopefully only smooth sailing for filming. I also need to ask some teachers about borrowing mics for better audio for the videos. I got a lot of work to do next week so I have to be productive and work hard!

Part 1: Week February 15-21 This week I made a Inkscape file for our house logo so we could laser cut it to put up on the wall of the lab. It took a while to do because of a bunch of issues, but some other people in my house were able to laser cut it yesterday. I am almost finished with the prototype for my belt rack. I have assembled everything and now I just want to do some touch up work to make it look nicer. I plan to show it to Mr. Li next week on Tuesday or Thursday to see if I can produce 2 more for some people who may want to purchase it. I have also started on making some coasters and earrings of Shakti's art work so we can laser cut some cool stuff. I hope to get it ready to laser cut by Thursday of next week so we can get some prototypes out. We are also still waiting to hear back from Unchangco about the environmental club sticker job. We hope to get the job so we can produce our cool sticker designs I showed last blog as well as make some money for our house.

I worked 3 days this week as an intern. I mainly worked from home because I had to get some scripts done for the machine tutorial videos. I so far have 4 completed scripts and a lot of other scripts that are partly written. I should be able to film some of the videos next week with Zen.

Part 2: Week February 22-28 This week I officially finished the prototype for the belt rack. I ended up painting the edge of the acrylic to make it look cleaner. I also made designs of Shakti's art for coasters and earrings. It took a little bit of trial and error because I haven't used photoshop and some of the different tools in inkscape in a very long time. Everything is ready to laser cut by next week.

I also did some intern work this week and I almost finished the script for the x-carve machine tutorial video. I also finished up setting up the CNC shed. I still need to get fish eye hooks and small bungee cords to hold the material stored in the shed so it doesn't fall and hurt anyone. I also need to replace one piece of wood in the shed but otherwise everything is rearranged and finished. I did some other stuff like cleaning out the silkscreen sink, calling epilog support, and organizing materials. Next week the first thing I need to do is clean all the mirrors and lenses in the epilog zing and check if any of them are scratched and need to be replaced. The machine is having trouble cutting all the way through material. I hope after I clean everything it will run perfectly again and if it doesn't we may have other issues happening with it. I also have to measure and cut wood for some work benches we are making for the lab. I plan on making 3 so we can rearrange and store things more efficiently in the lab. I need to make a few special order in the next week or so we have everything we need to complete projects fast and efficiently.

Part 1: Week January 26-31 Scrolls are now due every 2 weeks so I am making each scroll have a part 1 and part 2 for each of the weeks to help me better keep track of what I am doing. This week I got to go to the lab and do some stuff for my job. I put the large CNC x controller box back together after it was taken apart to change the power supply. I still need to connect the wires for the x-axis, y-axis, z-axis, and some other wires to the x-controller box and then test it out and hope I didn't ruin anything. I highly doubt I will ruin anything but there is always human error. I also tried to CNC carve out house logo into a piece of wood and to the left you can see that happened. It didn't work. Someone in my house is going to try and recarve it next week and hopefully it will actually succeed. I would recarve it myself but I have a lot of stuff to do as the lab manager next week during lab time. The last thing that happened is that my friend helped me laser cut some of the final pieces for the prototype of my belt rack. Some of the pieces didn't cut all the way through, I think it was because the laser needs to be cleaned which I will do next week, so we have to recut a few of the pieces. Hopefully after I finish the prototype I will be able to make a limited run to sell on shopify.

Part 2: Week February 1-7 So apparently our blog isn't due until February 14 meaning this will include 3 weeks of work for me. I want to remember hat I did the week of January 26-29 so I'm keeping it in this blog. Anyway this week I worked a lot because the lab needs refining and fixes so I am working on that. I installed some shelves in the CNC shed I through out a lot of junk wood and materials that were corroded and ruined due to water damage with the help of some of my friends. I designed some signs for the machines that I need to cut out soon. I figured out the process for checking out lab equipment so we know where it is and when it will be back in the lab. I did some other stuff but it wasn't like anything spectacular for the lab.

I also did some house work this week. I worked on my prototype for my belt rack. My friend cut the pieces out for me and I glued them together, stained them and now need to varnish the wood and assemble the last few things. After that I will show Mr. Li and if he approved it I will produce a very small limited run of the product since they take a while to make and they are expensive.

Oh I almost forgot that my earrings are on sale on the DTech shopify website. Here is the link if anyone reading this is interested.

DTech Inc Limited Release Products

They will only be up for the month of February. I was so epically excited and already got some purchases of the earring. We are currently figuring out the shipping process to get the earring order finished and shipped. I have sold 6 wood pairs and 2 bead pairs. This is honestly one of the coolest moments of my life and I am so happy I am able to get money back into the DTech program!

Ok last thing for this week, I just want to appreciate how epic our house business cards are. Naomi designed them and we included one with everything we sell. They are literally so cool!

Part 3: Week 8-14 So this week I did a lot of intern work, just getting things done. Next week I am planning to film some of the machine tutorial videos with Zen so we can get those ready for dynasty 5 and 6 so they actually know how to properly operate the machines.

This week I also finished varnishing the prototype of my belt rack and have the door cut out. All I have to do now is glue it together and add the door. I also helped on another house project which was a hat design that Naomi made that is an octopus tearing apart a ship. It looks super cool and it used holographic vinyl. It isn't perfect on the hat because it was a prototype and it was the first time I used the hat heat press but when we produce the limited run the design and application should be flawless and I'm super excited for it! Another thing that happened in our house is that we decided to laser cut the wall logo instead of using the CNC for a variety of reasons so we should be starting to laser cut that in the next week or two to get our house logo up on the wall of the lab.

The last thing that happened this week is that I helped work on a possible job for our house. We designed a sticker for environmental club. This was the design that I helped make (to the left) and I thought it turned out really well. I made a physical sketch fo the design and then Sophia made it digital. Our house lord, Sara, also made a super cool design (below). We had to come up with the idea, sketch two designs design and finalize them within one day which was very difficult. We got it don't and we should hear back soon if we got the sticker job or not.
