MILESTONES

By accepting the AE&L ReMix challenge, you will have the opportunity to work with others to learn first-hand the process of project-based learning AND apply it to solving a current issue that you are Facing in Your participate.

Throughout the course of this challenge, your team will work together to reach the following milestones and present your project at the April showcase.

Milestone #1

Due week of October 26, 2020

Team Formation

Your project is framed by a meaningful problem to be solved or a question to answer. During this phase, come together as a team, choose your leader, set your team norms, and determine your mission.

  • WHAT WILL OUR TEAM NAME BE?

  • WHO WILL SERVE AS OUR TEAM LEADER?

  • WHAT OTHER ROLES SHOULD WE HAVE?

  • HOW WILL WE COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER?

  • WHAT WILL OUR SCHEDULE LOOK LIKE?

  • HOW WILL WE ENSURE THAT ALL MEMBERS HAVE VOICE & CHOICE THROUGHOUT OUR PROJECT

  • WHAT IS OUR CHALLENGING QUESTION TO ANSWER, IDEA WE WANT TO TRY, OR MEANINGFUL PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED?

Milestone #2

Due week of November 30, 2020


Project Setup

Assess the authenticity of your project & develop your plan of action.

  • WHAT ARE THE GOALS & OBJECTIVES FOR OUR PROJECT?

  • HOW DOES OUR PROJECT INVOLVE REAL-WORLD CONTEXT?

  • HOW WILL OUR PROJECT MAKE AN IMPACT?

  • HOW WILL WE ENSURE QUALITY STANDARDS OF OUR PROJECT?

  • HOW DOES OUR PROJECT SPEAK TO LEARNER/PROGRAM CONCERNS, INTERESTS, & ISSUES?

  • HOW WILL WE INCORPORATE DIGITAL LITERACY/BLENDED LEARNING &/OR RESPECTING DIFFERENCE & DIVERSITY INTO OUR PROJECT?

  • HOW DOES OUR PROJECT ADDRESS A SPECIFIC &/OR LOCAL PROBLEM OR ISSUE?

  • WHAT ARE WE CREATING? A PRODUCT? TOOL? A LESSON?

  • WHAT RESOURCES DO WE NEED TO LOCATE & IDENTIFY IN ORDER TO PROCEED?

Milestone #3

Due week of January 18, 2021

Sustained Inquiry

As a team, use the Question Formulation Technique (QFT) to stimulate inquiry. This allows you to make meaning and organize your project work. Use questions formulated & prioritized by the team to then find resources, gather data, & apply information in order to answer your guiding question or solve your problem. Meet regularly to assess progress.

  • WHAT IS OUR FOCUS THAT WE WILL USE TO ASK QUESTIONS (TOPIC, IMAGE, PHRASE, SITUATION)?

  • WHAT ARE OUR INQUIRY QUESTIONS?

  • HOW CAN WE IMPROVE THESE QUESTIONS?

  • WHAT IS THE PRIORITY OF OUR QUESTIONS?

  • WHERE WILL WE LOOK FOR MODELS, RESEARCH & DATA?

  • WHAT ARE OUR NEXT STEPS?

  • WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED SO FAR & HOW WILL WE APPLY IT?

Milestone #4

Due week of February 15, 2021

Testing, Application, & Feedback

Through testing, gather feedback about your solution to revise and improve upon it.

  • HOW CAN WE FIND OUT IF OUR SOLUTION IS GOOD?

  • WHAT WILL BE OUR TESTING PLAN?

  • WHAT STEPS WILL WE TAKE TO TEST?

  • WHO WILL WE ASK TO EVALUATE & TEST OUR SOLUTION?

  • WHAT IS OUR TESTING TIMEFRAME?

  • WHAT TOOL WILL WE USE TO EVALUATE OUR SOLUTION?

Due week of March 15, 2021

Reflect, Critique, & Advise

As a team, engage in thoughtful, comprehensive reflection about the project's design and progress. Craft your showcase presentation to demonstrate the reasoning behind the choices you made, your inquiry process, findings, & work produced.

  • WHAT NEEDS TO BE IMPROVED?

  • IS OUR PRODUCT/SOLUTION LEARNER-CENTERED?

  • DOES OUR PRODUCT/SOLUTION INCORPORATE BLENDED LEARNING AND/OR RESPECTING DIFFERENCE & DIVERSITY?

  • HOW WILL WE PRESENT OUR FINDINGS?

Milestone #6

Due week of April 5, 2021

Showcase Preparation Present your work at the culminating showcase. Together, choose how you will convey your project to the conference audience through Zoom. Craft a summary of your presentation to be posted online & prepare supportive materials that can be shared.

  • WHO WILL CRAFT A DESCRIPTIVE SUMMARY OF OUR PROJECT?

  • WHEN & HOW OFTEN WILL WE PRACTICE AS A TEAM PRESENTING ON ZOOM?

  • WHO WILL PRESENT WHAT?

  • WHAT MATERIALS/HANDOUTS CAN SUPPORT OUR PRESENTATION?

  • WHO WILL GATHER ALL OF OUR PRESENTATION MATERIALS & SUBMIT THEM TO THE CONFERENCE ORGANIZERS?

Evaluate

Use this opportunity, as a team, to evaluate both your project & the PBL process. Determine how you will take what you have learned from this experience further.

  • HOW WAS OUR PRESENTATION RECEIVED?

  • HOW CAN WE IMPROVE MOVING FORWARD?

  • WHAT DID WE LEARN FROM OTHER PROJECT PRESENTATIONS?
