What is Financial Aid?

Financial Aid is money that helps you pay for college. There are many different forms of financial aid. The most common types are scholarship, grants, workstudy and loans. Here is video showing you the different types of federal student aid you many be eligible for.

What is the FAFSA?

FAFSA stands for - FREE Application for Federal Student Aid. This is an application a student and their parent(s) fill out to determine what and how much financial aid a student is eligible for. This application is FREE. (If you are being asked to pay, you are on the wrong website.) The website that should be used is:

https://fafsa.ed.gov/

Before you can start filling out the FAFSA, there are few things you need to do. Here is a graphic detailing the FAFSA process.

Once you have all the information needed, your next step is to create your FSA ID.

FSA ID

Your FSA ID is a username and password that serves as your electronic signature. Every student and one parent must have one. These are free to create and you will need your social security number and date of birth. **When entering in your information, make sure your name and social security number match what is on your social security card.**

Once you have created your FSA ID, you are now ready to start your FAFSA!!
