Applying to College

Ready to apply to a college? Congratulations!! That is awesome! Check out these resources to help you along the way.

What do I need?

Here is a list of things you may need to submit a college application?

  • Your full name
  • Date of birth
  • Social security number
  • Address, email address and phone number
  • The major you are interested in
  • Essay
  • SAT/ACT scores
  • Transcripts
  • 1-3 Letters of Recommendations

Some colleges may ask for all or some of these things and some may want other information. It is important you be prepared and flexible to accommodate the different information colleges need.

SAT/ACT Scores

Colleges will need your SAT/ACT scores to complete you application. Some colleges will accept these scores on your high school transcript. Other colleges will need them sent directly from SAT or ACT.

If you have questions about sending your scores to the college(s) you are applying to, please see Mrs. VanConant.

Transcripts

Transcripts are a required piece of applying to college. Every college is going to request you send them your high school transcripts. Please read below about Vestaburg's transcript policy.

Parchment

Parchment is the program Vestaburg uses to send HS transcripts to colleges. Every student must create an account in order to send their transcripts.

Sending transcripts is easy to do with Parchment. All students have to do is log in, select the college(s) they would like their transcripts sent and hit submit - that's it!

Here is the link to log into Parchment:

Any questions or concerns should be taken the Mrs. VanConant or Mr. Bloomfield.

Letters of Recommendation

Some colleges may require letters of recommendation. These letters are written by teachers, administrators, coaches or anyone else who knows the student really well. Every college has the option to determine who the letter should be written by. Make sure you read the requirements carefully.

If you need a letter of recommendation, or a few, make sure you ask the adult in person and give them a few weeks notice. Do not ask them the day before. Give them time to write a good letter and give them information about what should be included in the letter.

Essays

Some college require essays as part of their application. While this may be intimidating, know you have a support system at school to help you. If you need help brainstorming ideas or editing, please reach out to a teacher or staff member you trust.

Here is a list of things to keep in mind with application essays

    • Follow directions!
      • If they want 500 words or less, do not go over 500
    • Pay close attention to deadlines
    • Answer the question they give you
    • Show your personality while being professional
    • Proof read and edit
    • Don't be afraid to be you!
