PBIS is a framework focused on a proactive process for supporting the culture of the school community by improving academic, behavioral, and social emotional outcomes for all students. Effective classroom management and preventive school discipline are essential for supporting teaching and learning. PBIS goes further by emphasizing that classroom management and preventive school discipline must be integrated and working together with effective academic instruction in a positive and safe school climate to maximize success for all students. Schools have clear definitions and a clear continuum of responses for behaviors that interfere with academic and social success in accordance with the VBCPS Student Code of Conduct. The goal of the PBIS framework is to develop a school culture that supports every student.
