Commander Bill “Tuna” Brody

CDR Brody is a native of Middletown, New York.   He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1995 and graduated from Intelligence Specialist “A” School in 1996.  Following a successful enlisted tour with Strike Fighter Squadron One One Five, operating in support of Operation Southern Watch, he was selected for the Enlisted Commissioning Program. He Graduated from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Political Science and commissioned from the Jacksonville University NROTC Unit May 2001.  Following completion of Primary, Intermediate, and Advanced Flight Training, he earned his Wings of Gold in 2003 and reported to Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron One Two Zero in Norfolk, Virginia to train to fly the E-2C Hawkeye.

CDR Brody began his Fleet Aviator career with Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron One One Two in Point Mugu, CA and operated in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005 and Operation Enduring Freedom in 2007. In August of 2007, he returned to Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron One Two Zero as an instructor.  In May of 2009, CDR Brody received his Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College.  In May of 2010, he joined the USS Dwight D Eisenhower (CVN 69) as an Aircraft Launch and Recovery Officer (Shooter).  Following his Shooter tour, CDR Brody reported to his Department Head tour at Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron One One Three in Point Mugu, California, in October of 2012.  After completing his Department Head tour, he reported to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Strategic Headquarters Allied Command Transformation (NATO HQ SACT) in Norfolk, VA, as the Strategic Communications Capability Development Staff Officer in October 2014. In October 2017, CDR Brody reported aboard the USS Harry S Truman (CVN 75) in Norfolk, VA, to serve as the Assistant Air Officer (Mini Boss).  Following his Mini Boss tour, in October of 2019, CDR Brody reported to the Naval Leadership and Ethics Command, Dam Neck in Virginia Beach, VA, to facilitate leadership development to intermediate and senior Naval Officers. 

CDR Brody retired from the Navy in November of 2022 and became the Senior Naval Science Instructor at Landstown High School’s NJROTC Unit in Virginia Beach, VA.  He is married to his beautiful wife, Rachel, and has three children. 

CDR Brody’s decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Strike Flight Air Medals, Navy Commendation Medals, Navy Achievement Medals, and various unit and service awards.

Chief Petty Officer David M. Young 

Chief Young is a native of St. Louis, Missouri. He joined the Navy on May 24th , 2001. He completed boot camp and "A" School in Great Lakes, Illinois, where he became an Interior Communications Electrician. His first duty station was the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72), which was stationed in Everett Washington. He was assigned to Air Department and became a technician in the Visual Landing Aids (VLA) work center. As a shipmate aboard the Lincoln, he completed a historical and record-breaking ten-month deployment as a part of “Operation Iraqi Freedom.” His next assignment was at Naval Station Great Lakes where he was an instructor and earned a Master Training Specialist (MTS) qualification. 

After Great Lakes, he was assigned to the Combat Systems Department of the USS Simpson (FFG-56), which was stationed in Mayport, Florida. After serving aboard the Simpson for less than one year, he meritoriously advanced to 1st Class Petty Officer. Chief Young’s next shore assignment was at Norfolk Naval Shipyard; he was assigned to the Mid-Atlantic regional calibration center (MARCC), which is where he was promoted to Chief Petty Officer. Soon afterwards, he received orders to the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69), but he received an ORDMOD, and in a turn of fate was reassigned to his first ship: the USS Abraham Lincoln, which was homeported in Norfolk, Virginia after completing an RCOH.

While Chief Young was aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, the ship completed a world tour and homeport change to San Diego, California, where he remained stationed during the Coronavirus pandemic. In December 2021 he was stationed at NTAG Richmond at the MEPS in Petersburg, Virginia where he served as a Classifier. Following his retirement from active duty, Chief Young continues to provide his experience and service as an NJROTC instructor.
