This book is a comprehensive book that explores the role of discourse in shaping community relations and histories in the Sri Lankan conflict context. This book is a thought-provoking book that examines the role of media discourse in shaping national conflicts and influencing international relations especially in the Sri Lankan conflict context. Through a comprehensive analysis of media coverage, the book highlights how language and representation in the media can significantly impact the perception, understanding, and outcome of national conflicts.
The book begins by providing an overview of media discourse analysis, emphasizing its importance in understanding the power dynamics at play in national conflicts. It introduces key concepts such as framing, agenda-setting, and media bias, and explores how these discursive practices shape public opinion and policy-making.
Throughout the book, the authors employ a range of case studies to illustrate their analysis. These case studies include both historical and contemporary conflicts, such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Balkan Wars, and the war in Iraq. By examining media coverage of these conflicts, the authors shed light on how media discourses can either contribute to the escalation of conflicts or pave the way for peaceful resolutions.
The book also explores the interconnectedness of national conflicts and international relations. It examines how media discourses influence the perception of conflicts on the global stage, shaping international responses and interventions. The authors argue that media representations can either foster understanding and dialogue or perpetuate stereotypes and misunderstandings, ultimately affecting the prospects for peaceful resolution.
Moreover, the book delves into the concept of propaganda and its impact on national conflicts and international relations. It critically analyzes how media outlets and states manipulate information and narratives to gain strategic advantages or project their ideologies. The authors emphasize the importance of media literacy and critical analysis to counteract the influence of propaganda and ensure informed public discourse.
"National Conflict and International Relations: A Media Discourse Analysis" concludes by offering insights into how media practitioners, policymakers, and the public can engage in more responsible and ethical media practices. It calls for media outlets to prioritize accuracy, impartiality, and diversity of voices in their reporting and for individuals to be critical consumers of media.
Overall, this book provides a deep understanding of the role of media discourse in national conflicts and international relations. It highlights the potential of media to perpetuate or challenge dominant narratives and offers valuable insights for those interested in promoting peace, understanding, and ethical media practices.

It is a book that delves into the experiences of farmers in the Vanni region of Sri Lanka during times of war. It presents a comprehensive analysis of the challenges and struggles faced by these farmers and examines the concept of human security in the context of conflict.
The book begins by providing a historical background of the Vanni region and its significance in the Sri Lankan civil war. It explores how the conflict between the government forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) has affected the lives and livelihoods of the people in the region, specifically focusing on the farming communities.
Through in-depth interviews with farmers and extensive fieldwork, the author sheds light on the multi-dimensional nature of human security in a conflict zone. The book explores various aspects of human security, including economic, food, health, political, and personal security. It examines how the war has disrupted agricultural practices, hindered access to basic services, and undermined the overall well-being of the farmers and their families.
Moreover, the book analyzes the ways in which farmers have coped with and adapted to the challenges posed by the war. It explores the strategies they have employed to ensure their survival and protect their livelihoods, such as shifting to alternative crops, organizing collective farming initiatives, and engaging in off-farm employment.
The book also addresses the role of government policies and assistance programs in supporting the Vanni farmers during the war. It critically examines the successes and failures of these initiatives and highlights the importance of integrating the perspectives and needs of the local communities in policy-making processes.
Additionally, the book delves into the concept of reconciliation and explores how it relates to the human security of the Vanni farmers. It examines the post-war challenges faced by the farmers, including land issues, resettlement, and trauma, and discusses the importance of addressing these issues for long-term peace and stability in Sri Lanka.
"Vanni Farmers in Wartimes: a Saga of Human Security in Sri Lanka" concludes by emphasizing the need for holistic approaches to address the human security concerns of the Vanni farmers and other conflict-affected communities. It calls for comprehensive policy interventions that consider the social, economic, political, and psychological dimensions of human security.
Overall, this book offers a poignant and insightful account of the experiences of Vanni farmers during times of war in Sri Lanka.
