Positions
What is an Open Position?
An open position is an initiated trade that has yet to close with an opposing trade. You can view all your open positions within the Positions Widget, sorted by category.
To open a position, you will need to first place a buy or sell order - when that order gets filled, your open position will automatically be placed within the Positions Widget.
Closing a Position
Closing a position refers to executing a transaction that is the exact opposite of the open position being held:
Closing a long position means that the security or asset in your position will be sold.
Closing a short position means that the security or asset in your position will be bought back.
When a position is closed, all profits and losses are realized and the trade is no longer active.
To close a position, click on the X icon within your selected position row:
Select the quantity you would like to close. If selecting a partial quantity, a partial close will occur.
Select the price you would like to close your position with: either the market price or set a limit price.
If selecting a market price to close your position, your position should close immediately.
If selecting a limit price to close your position, your position will close only when the limit price is met.
Click on "Close position" to confirm the closing order.
Why has my Position been closed?
Varcity will close an Open position if either of the following occur:
There is insufficient margin in your account to close the position
There is insufficient liquidity available in the market to close your position.
