I grew up in the Columbia River Gorge. My early years were on Bear Prairie up the Washougal River, and my middle and high school years were in the Carson and Stevenson area. My interest in working in education probably started after I spent a week in my senior year as a group leader for a week-long 5th grade outdoor school program.
I’ve been working in education for 22 years. After becoming certified to teach K-8 in 1998, I worked as a substitute teacher, mostly at the middle school level, and as sculptor for several years. My work in Vancouver started in 2009 as counselor at Fort Vancouver High School. After 6 years there I took a position here at Mcloughlin Middle School. This will be my sixth year as a counselor at Mcloughlin.
Middle school can be a challenging few years, as many of us probably remember. I am here to support students to have as positive an experience as possible while they are at Mac. I work with students, families, teachers, and community members to do so. The best part of being a school counselor at Mac is working with students recognize their strengths, and build the academic and social skills that will help them find success in their futures, whatever they choose to do.
I like to spend time in the woods hiking. I also enjoy making sculptures.
