Competency Pathway FAQ

How do I know how many competencies I've met? Once you finish the Intro To Open Doors google class, you will receive a personalized Competency Tracker where you can track your progress.

How will completed competencies translate to my transcript? Every competency you meet will equal a .5 credit which will be transcribed. You will receive a neutral CR for the "grade," unless you exceed the competency, then you will receive a letter grade (A).

Is this like a GED? No. Competency Pathway graduates earn a WA State diploma.

Is Competency easier than traditional school? Not easier, but since you get to choose your own projects, it can be more interesting and FEEL easier for some.

What kind of projects can I do? The options are 100% open. You are limited only by your imagination!

GED Pathway FAQ

Can I just get my GED? No, but you CAN take practice tests, study regularly, and eventually pass all 4 GED tests.

What are the tests I have to pass? Math, Social Studies, Science, and Language Arts.

How long will it take for me to earn my GED? It depends on your skill level in each area and how often you study.

Can I go to college if I get my GED? Yes! Most community colleges accept GED as an equivalent to a high school diploma. If you are interested in attending a university, you will need to start at the community college and then transfer.

How do I know if this is the right option for me? You will have the opportunity to discuss this pathway with your teachers and family and compare it with other options.

Partnership Programs

Clark college(Running Start), Cascadia Tech

Potential for Dual Enrollment/Partnership Programs:
Students have the opportunity to simultaneously earn high school credits and pursue Running Start or Cascadia Tech Academy opportunities. If you're interested in learning more about these opportunities, talk to your student's counselor.

Running Start with Clark College

The Running Start program allows high school juniors and seniors to earn college credits while completing their high school education.

Cascadia Tech

Cascadia Technical Academy is a cooperative Career and Technical learning experience created in partnership with ten school districts in SW Washington.
