The Open Doors Program at Heights Campus is designed for credit-deficient students aged 16 to 21 who struggle in traditional classroom settings or with online platforms. The program aims to re-engage students by providing a positive learning environment that encourages a desire and belief in learning. The curriculum combines social/emotional learning based on Washington State SEL standards with academic instruction leading to a 24 or 22 Credit Diploma through Project Based Learning. Students attend one day a week for a 2 hour and 15 minute session, with transportation provided if needed. The program maintains a low teacher-to-student ratio, with additional support services available. Open Doors also offers a GED program for qualifying students, which includes preparation and testing in four subject areas. The GED option provides an alternative path to completing high school education, with potential benefits including better job prospects, opportunities for further education, improved self-esteem, and increased income potential. The program is flexible, allowing students to continue preparation independently or return to Heights until age 21 if they don't complete all tests during their initial enrollment.
