Phonological Awareness is the ability to recognize that spoken words are made up of individual sound parts.
This includes rhyming, syllables, segmentation, and more.
Phonemic awareness is actually part of the "Phonological Awareness House."
Isolate Sounds: to separate/identify sounds in a spoken word into sections (beginning sound, middle sound, end sound).
Blending: putting together individual sounds to say the word outloud.
Segmenting: break down a word into its individual sounds.
Onset: Only used for single-syllable words. Onset is the beginning sound/initial consonants before the vowel. Examples: [c]at. or [sp]eech.
Rime: Only used for single-syllable words. Rime is the vowel and the remaining string of letters after the vowel. Examples: c[at] or sp[eech].
