To connect your laptop to an external monitor, you’ll need to know which video ports your laptop supports and make sure your monitor has a matching connection. Common laptop ports include VGA, HDMI, and USB-C.
The type of port on your laptop will determine which video cable or adapter you need to connect to an external display. Many newer laptops are designed to be thinner, which often means they have fewer built-in connection options than older models.
The Technology Department does maintain a limited supply of basic adapters in surplus. If you’re unsure which adapter you need, or if you would like assistance, please request a Technology Specialist.
There are all-in-one docking stations and hubs available that allow your laptop to connect to virtually any external device—such as monitors, keyboards, mice, and speakers—through a single unit.
