Student Support & Success

What we do to support our Students

At UWS, we are here for our students. This is also reflected in the various support mechanisms we have in place - from funding advice to counselling.

This page introduces you to a number of UWS services, while also explaining how we support the HRM students on our programmes through Personal Tutoring...

Let us help you find your way around...

The 'The SBCI Way' session is designed to provide you with fundamental guidance and support in helping you succeed on your university journey! It is aimed at outlining some of the key UWS Systems (including MyDay, Celcat; myUWS; Self-service Banner; etc.), as well as our student support mechanisms (including personal tutoring, disability & well-being, library, etc.)

Personal Tutoring

Personal Tutors are here to help you succeed with your studies and beyond:

    • …provide academic, pastoral and developmental support and guidance;

    • …provide guidance in relation to your studies, employability, and support you in overcoming any issues out-with university (e.g. health issues, etc.);

    • …oversee your engagement, and intervene if and when necessary.

How does Personal Tutoring work?:

    • Individual meetings as per REQUEST by the student to discuss progress, success, goals as well as potential concerns and issues;

    • Referral to most appropriate person/team where applicable, including funding advice, effective learning, careers, CIPD, etc.

Every student should be able to experience the full range of the university’s activities. If you have a disability, a long-standing medical condition or a specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia, the Disability Service can help you make the most of your time at UWS.

Here at UWS, we have introduced SilverCloud, an online service that gives you secure, immediate access to interactive CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) modules.

Programmes include: Space from Stress, Space from Anxiety, Space from Depression, and Space for Positive Body Image.

It’s easy to use, interesting and motivational. Access it anywhere on your computer, tablet or mobile.

Academic Skills

We run academic skills workshops in both term 1 and 2:

    • The workshops are targeted at all School of Business & Creatvie Industries students — ALL NEW students are EXPECTED to attend.
