At the beginning of August this year the IB surprised us all with the announcement that the May 2021 examinations would be significantly changed. Nearly every subject 'lost' one of its examination components, in some cases a whole paper. The only exceptions to this are Mathematics, TOK and the EE also remains unchanged. Details can be found here. However, this does not mean that the curriculum itself has been changed, so we will continue to teach the subject content as outlined in the subject guides, even if the examination focus has now changed.
As a consequence, our internal deadlines will be changing. As there will be an increased weighting to internal assessments, those deadlines will be pushed further along, while we are currently focusing on some of the humanities IAs, maths IA, the extended essay (the process was already started before lockdown) and the TOK presentation. This will give us more time later on for practical work in geography and the sciences. Details will be published here once they have been finalized.
There will be no formal assessment week this term. In order to minimize stress, we will be looking towards having continuous assessment, meaning that you will be graded on a number of smaller assignments in each subject, and your term grade will be made up of a variety of graded work; the details will depend on the subject. You will have your trial examinations in mid-March, and enough time to concentrate on exam preparation and revision after that.
