The Inter-University Institute for Data Intensive Astronomy (IDIA) is a collaborative partnership between several South African universities, including UWC, focused on developing tools, infrastructure, and expertise to tackle the challenges of big data in astronomy.
IDIA supports scientific discovery with MeerKAT and the upcoming SKA by enabling researchers to process, analyse, and visualise massive datasets. At UWC, our astronomers work closely with IDIA to pioneer machine learning, cloud-based pipelines, and custom data platforms that are essential for next-generation radio surveys.
Through IDIA, UWC is helping shape the future of data-intensive science on the African continent.
