Leadership roles within the Institute

I have been the coordinator of the Introduction to Bioinformatics training course 2017-2020 & 2022 and arranged the setup of the course and identified lecturers for the course from local institutions. It was my sole responsibility to drive the course and communicate with applicants and lecturers.

I have successfully coordinated the course work for the BTN315 Bioinformatics module. I liaised with lecturers within SANBI to upload course work and setup exam questions and performing marking of tests and exam papers on time. I had to assist lecturers during the lockdown to migrate our teaching practice from face to face meetings to online teaching for lectures and practical.

Furthermore, I am responsible for bringing international guests to SANBI, Prof Chandra Verma from the (A-star Bioinformatics Institute, Biopolis, Singapore) who was appointed extraordinary Professor at SANBI, UWC in 2020.

Additionally, I arranged a seminar at SANBI with an International speaker from Karolinski Institute, Sweden Prof Ujjwall Neogi to foster collaborations with SANBI. Prof Ujjwall Neogi from the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm Sweden, gave a presentation entitled “Multi-omics study in HIV-1 infection” on the 07 May 2019 at the South African National Bioinformatics Institute, University of the Western Cape, South Africa.
