For my undergraduate BTN315 class I use the UWC iKamva platform to upload my lecture slides and other Bioinformatics lecturers slides as well as assignments and to make announcements about lecture venue changes. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we were forced to resort to online teaching. Here we made power point voice over recordings as lecture material. We also had to change the way we did assessments by randomizing test and exam questions on the iKAMVA platform to prevent plagiarism among students.
For my research group (postgraduate students) at SANBI we use github to store python code and the open access platform called Figshare to publish laboratory protocols, lecture slides and oral presentations. I edit dissertations electronically in word documents to enhance feedback to students to prevent delay in submitting thesis for examinations. Google drive and docs has also been useful to collaborate with other departmental groups within and outside the University when writing manuscripts for publication, to obtain speedy feedback and changes to the online “live” document and sharing data.
