2023
Following my PhD in the field of computational drug discovery and my internship at the Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research in Switzerland, my research took a new trajectory. My research now focuses on computational drug discovery and development for infectious diseases, especially malaria. The motivation for my unflinching resolve and my approach to contribute to the resolution of the issues of infectious diseases (especially malaria) in sub-Saharan Africa steps from the frequent and incessant malaria infections that I suffered while in Nigeria, my home country, and the various herbal remedies that ingested for the treatment of the malaria infections.
I have begun to mentor postgraduate students since 2017 and my research group is contributing to the prospect of developing drug candidates by applying a niche approach of cheminformatics coupled with computational simulation and modelling, data analytic techniques and artificial intelligence (AI) to the enormous data generated from drug discovery projects. I also mentor postgraduate students in the field of medicine regulatory sciences.
Given the nascent nature of my research niche of cheminformatics and the work-based and professional nature of the medicine regulatory sciences that I am majorly involved with, I have to mentor postgraduate students from Masters level. This is because there is a dearth of potential PhD candidates in these fields (i.e. cheminformatics and medicine regulatory sciences). Therefore my postgraduate students have been majorly Masters students whom I am training in the new field of cheminformatics and working professionals whom I am training in medicine regulatory sciences. The students whom I have successfully mentored since the last promotion, before the last promotion, and who are currently under my mentoring are outlined below:
After promotion in 2023

Adetutu Akinnuwesi (4115720)

2019

My research now focused on computational drug discovery and development for infectious diseases, especially malaria. I have begun to mentor postgraduate students since 2017 and my research group is contributing to the prospect to develop antimalarial drug candidates from Africa by applying modern computational simulation and modelling, data analytic techniques and artificial intelligence (AI) to the enormous data generated from drug discovery projects in malaria and other infectious diseases involving natural compounds. I also mentor postgraduate students in the field of regulatory sciences and pharmacy administration.
