Current funded projects (after last promotion):
1. University of Missouri/University of the Western Cape Faculty Exchange Program award in collaboration with Prof Jerry Wyckoff at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, USA
2. South African Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) seed funding up to support proof of concept for the development of a herbal product from indigenous plant. market.
3. NIH “data science innovation” project, in which I am a co-investigator. It is a U2R NIH application titled “Computational Omics and Biomedical Informatics Programme” which is designing new postgraduate certificate (PGCert) and postgraduate diploma (PG Dipl) programs called “data science and -omics in health research” across universities in Africa.
I currently have three grants.
Principal investigator of a South African Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) seed funding up to R620,000 to support proof of concept for the development of an herbal product for mental health from a South Africa plant.
Principal investigator of a University of Missouri/University of the Western Cape Faculty Exchange Program award (up to $ 6400) in collaboration with Dr. Hongmin at the University of Missouri, Columbia, USA to develop staphylococcus sp. antibiofilm compounds.
Co-investigator on a U2R NIH application entitled “Computational Omics and Biomedical Informatics Programme” which introduces at the University of Cape Town (UCT), new short course postgraduate certificate (PGCert), a year course work postgraduate diploma (PGDip), 2-year Master’s degree and 4-year research-based PhD degree.
The first one is a South African Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) seed funding up to R620,000 to support proof of concept for the development of an herbal product from wild dagga. The main purpose of the seed fund is to enable innovators to evaluate, demonstrate and advance the value proposition and commercial potential of their research outputs. The outputs from this research has the potential to gain access to the lucrative herbal medicine product market.
University of Missouri/University of the Western Cape Faculty Exchange Program award (up to $ 6400) in collaboration with Dr. Hongmin at the University of Missouri, Columbia, USA to develop staphylococcus sp. antibiofilm compounds. The results from this project has a potential to enhance the chance of success a NIH grant application that requires a preliminaries result.

I will bring my expertise in healthcare, data management and the various -omics fields to bear in the planning and execution of this training project.
