What feedback or insights helped our team improve the MyCourses design the most?
During user, our testing groups recommended having a navigation bar instead of clicking the back button every time we entered a new feature. We created a simple navigation tool that allows users to hop from one feature to another, ultimately reducing the number of steps to get around our app. Having a navigable and understandable navigation system was a crucial feature we needed to evaluate during user testing.
Challenges our team faced during the project:
Our team faced the biggest challenge when creating our high fidelity prototype on Figma. Since all of us have little experience on Figma, we struggled with navigating its interface and understanding its design tools. Translating our design into Figma's design environment was a lengthy and sometimes confusing process for the team.
What our team learned from the design and testing process:
We learned the importance of the testing process and its criticality when designing our app. Beforehand, we believed that our interface was very intuitive and that no one would have a problem navigating through. After testing, our participants recommended small changes that would make a great impact for users. Initially, these features were outside of our design ideas and without the testing process, we wouldn’t have been able to identify these opportunities for improvement within our app.
Changes our team would make if we had more time:
If we were to have more time, we would implement a feature where students can reply to other students' comments regarding classes and professors they’ve had. This would create a more interactive environment where students can ask follow up questions and provide more details. Given the limited time and Figma limitations, we were not able to implement this feature in this first iteration.
How our design could continue to evolve in the future:
Our design could continue to evolve in the future by advancing the AI chatbot. Currently, the chatbot provides basic assistance such as accessing student information, course information, recommending classes, etc. Possible new implementations could be that the chatbot can determine whether a course schedule is too difficult for a student or not, this could be estimated by how they perform in their previous courses.
