The program application for the Autumn 2022 program will be available soon on the UW Study Abroad program page.

How to Apply

  • Visit the UW Study Abroad program page and click Apply Now to start an application

  • Applications are expected to be due by February 15, 2022 may be extended but aim for this date.

  • Required applications materials:

    • Personal statement

    • 2 short answer responses

    • Online recommendation form from a professor, TA, or EPE

  • Be considered for a UW Study Abroad Scholarship

    • Make sure to check the Scholarship box on your application - no additional application required

    • Preference for students with high financial need

Selection

  • If more applications are received than there are available spots in the program, applicants will be invited to an informal interview with members of the program staff. Based on application and interview information, students will be selected for the program based on a number of factors, including:

    • academic preparedness and demonstration of their ability to handle taking engineering fundamental courses in a non-traditional environment

    • appreciation for cultural competency and interest in developing cross-cultural understanding and communication skills during the program

    • potential to demonstrate maturity and act as a positive representative for the UW in Rome

  • Non-engineering students are eligible to apply for the program, though engineering students will be given priority in selection.

  • Applicants will be notified in March if they are offered a spot in the program. A waitlist may be maintained to accommodate additional students as space becomes available.

  • Selected students will be asked to confirm their spot on the program by the start of Spring Quarter to finalize the program roster.

Pre-Departure Orientations

Four orientation sessions will be held in Spring Quarter to cover important topics to know before departure including:

  • Group expectations

  • Travel planning and logistics

  • Packing lists

  • Student apartment assignments and expectations

  • Course preparation

  • Introduction to Roman and Italian history and culture

  • Updated public health guidelines based on the status of COVID-19
