Editor-in-Chief & German Editor
Shriya Shah (S5) is the Editor-in-Chief and German Editor of UTS Echo. She is fluent in English, Gujarati & Hindi while learning German, French, Spanish & reading Sanskrit. She was introduced to German through the UTS Curriculum and has achieved her A2 proficiency and is working towards her B1. Her love for languages stems from her passion to travel, as she finds it to be a means to expand her global knowledge and opportunities. In her spare time you can find her reading, from Plato's works to reminiscing her childhood through YA novels along with working on her newfound interest in learning American Sign Language! She aims that through ECHO she can share her passion for language learning, while empowering others to join the journey!
French Editor
Ira Puri (S5) is the French editor of UTS ECHO. Growing up around Hindi, Spanish, French, and German, she developed a strong interest in speaking and learning about languages. She has taken French since elementary school, but fell in love with French during an exchange in M3, in which she spent 3 lovely months living and attending school in France. Now, you can probably find her blocking the hallway chatting with Mme. Amiot, flexing her french rap skills, or painting scenes from French films. She hopes that readers will be able to connect to her enthusiasm for French language and culture through Echo’s selections.
Latin Editor
Olivia Chung (S5) is the ECHO Latin Editor and has studied Latin from F2 to M4, having participated in Classics from F2 to the present. She is the Literary Awards Vice President (and President for next year), an S5 Student Council Grade Representative, a Pink Day Crew Executive Member, a Tour Guide, and an executive member of the Animal Justice Committee.
Mandarin Editor
Jimmy Zou (S5) is the Chinese editor of ECHO. Growing up in Chongqing, China, he inherited a strong passion for traditional Chinese literature from his grandparents and a love for fiction and news from his parents. Ever since moving to Canada in 2010, he has dreamed of writing his own Chinese novel which would one day be published online. Ten years and seven hundred thousand words of drafts later, he is closer to that goal than he has ever been. He was also formerly ranked 23rd globally in Google Crowdsource’s Chinese-English translations and helps with voluntary translation projects for online education platforms such as Coursera. Jimmy hopes to bring his insights and commitment to make ECHO’s Chinese section an unforgettable and radical part of the publication.
Spanish Co-editor
Justin Cheng (S6) is the Spanish co-editor of UTS ECHO. From a young age, he has had a passion for languages, from Mandarin to Attic Greek to, of course, Spanish. He has taken Spanish since M3, and continues to learn more each day. In his free time, he likes to translate memes into Spanish and theorize about El Cuarto Misterioso. He hopes to inspire the same love of language in his readers through the ECHO Spanish section.
