After you complete the required course readings, work on the below tasks. Note the change in course schedule - readings only include Chapter 10 (CM) & the research reading. It is important that you do the research reading because we'll connect to that as we talk about teacher discourse/talk moves. DO NOT spend more than 2 hours working on the below tasks, but you should make an effort to refer back to the readings as you complete these so that you are as prepared for Friday's discussion as much as possible.
You can 1, 2, and 4 in any order, but you will have to do 1 & 2 before you can do 3.
1. Wrap up Addition-Subtraction task from Week 10 by completing this card sort. Note that there are 4 slides in this card sort. You can find your group's prior work here. You'll likely find it useful to revisit Chapters 2 & 3 from Children's Mathematics as you do this task.
2. Revisit the Multiplication-Division tasks from last week by doing the following:
3. The plan for our time on zoom on Friday is to focus on discussing the relative difficulty of problem types from the addition-subtraction card sort and on teacher talk moves. So we'll need to focus our discussion about problem types and strategies on what you're most uncertain about. On Google Classroom, post on the discussion board any questions that you still have about addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problem types and their direct modeling, counting, and number fact strategies. Some questions will be answered on the discussion board and some will be addressed during our time on zoom.
