Raised Median Toolkit

To help navigate the complexities that come when raised medians are being considered, UDOT created a Statewide Raised Median Toolkit.

Our primary goal with the toolkit is to provide consistency as it relates to:

1. Assessing the need for raised medians

2. Engaging stakeholders

3. Supporting decisions with sound resources

This web based toolkit is intended to be used mainly by decision makers, public involvement specialists, planners, design engineers, traffic engineers, or anyone else involved with roadway projects.

UDOT has also developed roadway design standards for medians, including raised medians. This standard provides specific guidance for when a raised median and other median types should be used. See section 4.11 “Medians” (Cross-Sectional Elements chapter) of the Roadway Design Manual for details.
