UDOT Traffic and Safety has been working to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists by developing the speed management study and working with communities to implement speed management techniques. Research has shown that lowering the speed limit alone is not an effective method at lowering vehicle speeds, thus the need for speed management. This presentation will discuss speed management strategies, informational sheets, a new speed management study, and the collaboration that will be necessary for successful implementation of speed management measures. UDOT Is also beginning the process of updating their speed policy, which will change how speed limits are evaluated and set.
