Being physically active is one of the most important things you can do to live a longer, healthier life. We tend to get caught up in the performance aspect of sport and exercise, but even a healthy habit of walking from place to place can make a difference. In this session, we’ll discuss the health impacts of a walkable community, and how small changes can affect physical, mental, and societal health. We know a lot about how to make people faster and stronger, but we know even more about how a regular habit of activity can improve the health of an entire community.

The goal of Safe Routes Utah is to help children get to and from school safely while motivating children to experience the benefits of walking or biking to school. We’ll be discussing what programs we currently have in place to create awareness, how parents and community leaders can help champion these programs, and why using our Safe Routes mapping system will give parents and children confidence and peace of mind as students walk or bike to school.
