In this course I learned to incorporate different functional and efficiency aspects of planning and designing projects, such as site planning and analysis, space planning and programming, client research and architectural diagrams like the bubble diagram and adjacency matrix. All of these aspects helped me design better and more efficient projects by considering these approaches when planning and designing. Basic site planning and analysis proved to be very important before starting to design because it helps you know the site limitations, constraints, and things to consider, such as sun path, traffic flow, wind directions, adjacent houses, views, etc. On the other hand, space planning helped me navigate through spaces in the client’s eyes by considering the users, furniture layout, allowable spaces, living patterns, and proxemics. Our client research, conducted on esquisses aid us in designing for the client’s needs and wants. Lastly, architectural diagrams assisted us in quickly visualizing spaces and information.
From the feedback the instructors gave me, it helped me think further in designing projects, to consider everything you can for an efficient design. For future projects, I would try to apply everything learned, so that I can build up the efficiency of the design. It also made me realize that designing structures is a very long process of continuous repetitions and iterations, so I should not delay my tasks, and I need to work on it as early as possible to not be late and panic on deadlines. This is also my advice to next year’s students, to not procrastinate, but also remember to relax; be time efficient at managing tasks and deadlines.
