DS.VRU uses The Basic Core Curriculum B.E. 2551 from Ministry of Education in Thailand.Â
After thoroughly reading and understanding the schedule that was given to me, I immediately asked Teacher Wachirawit, my cooperating teacher, on the topics that I need to discuss. He mentioned about Geometry, specifically the basic terms in it and all about angles. After knowing these information, I then created my lesson plan, incorporating the steps and strategies that I also use in teaching at UST Education High School. You can read about my Lesson Plan here.
The next step after preparing the lesson plan was to create my learning material, which in this case, I decided to use powerpoint presentation for the discussion of the topic. Additionally, I also prepared different sets of worksheet for each of the two topics that I discussed - Basic Concept and Terms in Geometry and Angles.
When I taught the students about the basic concept and terms in Geometry, I incorporated it with real-life examples so that they can see and realize that Math is really around them and it can be applied to real-life scenarios. Through this, they were able to answer the worksheet that I gave them where they have to draw the basic geometrical concepts that they can see in their surroundings. The worksheet can be accessed here.
For the discussion on Angles, I have decided to provide a lot of examples in order for the students to be practiced on the different kinds of angles and how to get their measurements. Additionally, in order for me to know if they understood the topic that was discussed, I decided to give them a worksheet where in they have to classify the kind of angle for the given figures and measurements. The worksheet can be accessed here.
MY TEACHING DEMONSTRATION
I had my teaching demonstration in the class of 1/3 and discussed the topic about Angles. I was quite nervous as this is only the second time that I will be teaching these students and the last time that I had a class with them, half of the class was absent due to the flu. However, they really exceeded my expectation with them. They showed eagerness whenever they recite in class and reflected a positive energy while they are in class. The feeling of being nervous that I felt before the class actually began to be replaced with the feeling of easiness and bliss as I teach them. I can say that I am really proud of these students and that they've really touched my heart - a feeling and memory that I certainly brought home with me to the Philippines.
