Hi, I’m Shane Mia! Welcome to my learning journey in Assessment in Learning II :))
It cannot be denied that all the topics discussed in Assessment in Learning II are significant for future teachers like me. However, the topic of communicating authentic assessment results is the one that interests me the most. Through this topic, I came to realize that indeed, teachers have so many roles. Although they already created and checked the assessments, their job doesn't stop there. Aside from communicating the assessment results to students, it is also their role to communicate it to the students’ parents/guardians. As a future teacher, I gained a lot of tips and information on how I can properly communicate the assessment results, especially if it’s negative. For example, I should not add the disappointment or anger that the student’s parents may feel about the bad performance of their son/daughter. Instead, I have to encourage them to meet in the middle, and appropriately address the possible problem of the student involved. Above all, proper guidance and support are the needed ingredients to address the student’s needs.
With the help of this subject, I managed to develop my collaborative skills as I have to communicate and work with my peers in doing some learning activities. I learned how to share my ideas with others and to hear others’ insights as well. Moreover, this subject also helped me to develop my study skills as assessments do not only involve memorization. In studying for summative assessment, I need to truly understand the concepts, instead of just memorizing them. Lastly, the subject helped me improve my critical thinking skills. In every assigned task, I was challenged to plan and think deeply in order to produce a successful product. It is because I want to make sure that every activity I submit has quality.
I experienced online fatigue. As a result, it was often hard for me to focus during synchronous classes. With that, I have to watch the recorded sessions so that I could understand some concepts I failed to be aware of. In addition, with this setup, it’s difficult to find motivation sometimes. However, going back to the reason why I started always helps me to continue. Nothing’s easy. To achieve my goals, I have to work hard and overcome challenges. As Fred Devito said, “If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.” With this, I know challenges are inevitable, but it has the ability to make me grow.

Entry 1:
Formative Assessment vs. Summative Test 1
Goal (s):
To learn from my past mistakes
To make improvements in the Summative Assessment I
Indeed, there is always room for improvement. I learned the importance of checking where I went wrong and making sure that I will get it right the next time. Honestly, I was kinda sad when I saw that my score was yellow during the formative assessment, but it also gave me the motivation to strive harder.
Entry 2:
Discussion Board on Learning Competencies
Goal (s):
To properly create learning competencies.
Before, I don’t have any experience in creating my own learning competencies, because I’m just normally using what is in the curriculum guide whenever I’m doing lesson plans. That is why I did not expect that my work would be a part of the “best works”. I came to realize that there is nothing wrong with trying, especially if I’m doing my best. It may be scary to fail, but it is only part of learning and succeeding.
Goal (s):
To properly make an assessment using the GRASP Method
To properly create a rubric for an assessment
To improve my collaborative skills
To get a decent score in the Performance Task.

Creating an assessment and rubric is not an easy task. But with the help of collaboration and teamwork, my group successfully did it. Plus, we got a perfect score! Through this task, I’ve learned that cooperation and active communication with my group mates are significant in the completion of a task. Asking for their opinions is essential as well.

Goal (s):
To achieve a green score in the preliminary examination
To show understanding and learning about topics discussed in the preliminary period.
The pieces of music that help my brain when studying:
During the Summative Test 1, I obtained a yellow-green score, the same as the Summative Test 2. I’m not yet getting a green score, so I aimed to achieve it. And yes! I succeeded. I have learned that I can achieve anything if I put in the effort, hard work, and dedication. Also, I realized that I can always do better.
Goal (s):
To properly construct my own Likert Scale and Semantic Differential Scale.
In the process of creating my own Likert Scale and Semantic Differential Scale, I realized that it can be helpful in assessing the affective traits of my future students. With that, the opportunity of being able to make one was essential so that I will be able to utilize it someday. Practicing is a must!
Indeed, hard work is being paid off. Difficulties and challenges are inescapable, but it will all be worth it in the end. However, the high mark is not the only thing that matters, it is also the lessons that helped me develop my skills and character.
Goal (s):
To show a high level of understanding and learning about the “Assessment of the Affective Domain”
To input the suitable word for a semantic differential scale
To improve Likert scale statements
At first, I had difficulty grasping the lesson included in the Summative Test 3. That’s why I really studied in order to achieve a good score. With that, I’ve learned that it’s really important to be responsible for my own learning. I need to exert additional effort if I want to have good results.
Goal (s):
To show understanding and learning about these topics: (1) Portfolio, and (2) Grading and Reporting.
I made it to the last summative test! It has taught me that it’s okay to pause and breathe for a while, but never stop pursuing. In addition, I’ve learned a lot about “Portfolio” and “Grading and Reporting” which will surely help me in the future. Indeed, a portfolio is helpful for students to track their progress, thus making them aware of their own learning. Also, I realized that monitoring learners’ progress and evaluating their achievements are necessary to know if one’s teaching is effective and who among the students needs more help and support.
