TADOFFICERS Email Group Subscription
This will be helpful to get information from the TAD OIC. Please do not email the TAD OIC asking to be subscribed from this list.
How to Unsubscribe from TADOFFICERS
The easiest method to unsubscribe from the TADOFFICERS distro is to use the command below.
tadofficers+unsubscribe@usna.edu
You just need to send an email to tadofficers+unsubscribe@usna.edu. No subject or body needed. This will automatically unsubscribe you from the distro.
This will be helpful for when you detach from the academy. Please do not email the TAD Coordinator asking to be unsubscribed from this list.
If your CAC has Expired
If you have an expired CAC, you will not be allowed to access the base. Before you report for TAD duty you will need to physically go to a CAC office and get a new ID.
Here is where you make an appointment. (If Annapolis is booked, try Ft Meade, or a military installation near your leave location). FT. Meade is no longer accepting walk-ins to get a CAC. You are encouraged to make appointments by phone at any location. Most locations have available times even though online it may show no available appointments.
When you go to your appointment, bring a second (not expired) form of ID with you.
Inform your TAD Supervisor of any issues with your CAC and your ability to report for duty.
If your CAC certificate is not extended per the above you will not be able to access the installation as the DBIDS reader will show that your card is expired. The gate sentry will not confiscate your card, but you will not be given access to the installation until the card certificate is updated by accessing ID Card Online and performing the required steps.
Prior Service not Appearing on your O-1 LES
Prior service personnel should review their LESs to ensure they are credited for prior service.
For example: ENS X was prior enlisted for 3 years prior to USNA, but on his LES it says that he has zero years of enlisted service.
If their information has not been reflected please follow the steps below:
Email the oath of office, DD 214, and reenlistment contracts, and point sheet (if you have them) to devonte.robinson@navy.mil in PERS 835. (All PII must be sent through DoD Safe.)
PERS 835 number is 901-874-3241 (email is preferred)
O-1 Pay Delayed?
The pay received on your May LES was the last of your MIDN pay. Graduation occurred after the cutoff for end of month pay but the system is now reflecting you as O1s and you should be paid at mid-month. Mid-month pay should be retroactive from graduation.
BAH/clothing allowances for the TAD Ensigns will eventually be released. You should see this included on your mid-month June paycheck (Around June 15th ).
For pay questions, contact Officer Personnel, Carin Siebers <siebers@usna.edu>
Parking
TAD Ens/2ndLts are required to park in MIDN or undesignated parking spots and will not be allowed to leave their cars overnight or for an extended period while they are on leave.
Anyone found in violation of these rules will be ticketed.
TADs are not authorized F/S stickers, and may not park in faculty/staff parking.
How to contact the Travel Office (for Travel Claims & Advances)
Since you are no longer MIDN, don't contact the Training Officer. Report to the USNA travel office.
contact travel@usna.edu
How to Request Leave
TAD start dates are determined by the TAD Supervisors.
Before 15 Jul (including basket leave) use a "paper" leave chit.
After 15 Jul, request leave via NSIPS (you do not need to send a leave request form). To activate NSIPS Self-Service (New User Account). Here is the NSIPS e-Leave Quick Start Self Service User Guide.
Log-in to https://www.nsips.navy.mil/
Look for "Menu" located at the bottom of the page.
Click "NSIPS Self-Service (New Users)"
If you do not have an official work email, provide your personal email so as to get your NSIPS account started. Then, click "create, self-service account" and completely log-out.
If you are unable to access NSIPS use the leave request form. The hard copy leave chit should be sent electronically.
Basket leave has these caveats:
For leave type will choose graduation from the drop down if you are using basket leave.
use all within 90 days of gradation (Graduation leave expires on Thursday, 24 Aug 2023 at 2359, 90 days from commissioning date of 26 May 2023.)
Can Navy TADs use their graduation/basket leave after block I?
Yes.
If we need a TAD during block 1, they are able to push their basket leave to block 2 (or later), assuming their class-up or report dates support it. They'll have up to 90 days from graduation to use their graduation leave. It can be used in any combination in that time period, broken up, etc., and only expires when one of three things occur:
They use all 30 days
They pass through that 90 day mark while assigned to USNA (2024 example - Graduation leave expires on Thursday, 22 Aug 2023 at 2359, 90 days from commissioning date of 24 May 2024.)
They check into their next I-stop on their orders
Technically, they can TAD here, then take basket leave while in route to their next duty station as long as it does not go beyond August 24. It is written in their orders so no leave chit is required.
How to sign up for the TAD Email Distro (all must do this)
TADs must have their personal email address added to the TADofficers email distribution list, which in turn will provide them with information that is promulgated via the nonmids email list as well as the military list.
Subscribe yourself to the TAD Officers list by doing the following:
Send a blank email from your account addressed to TADOFFICERS-subscribe-request@lists.usna.edu
You should receive a confirmation email saying they have successfully subscribed to the list.
To unsubscribe when they detach, simply send another blank email to TADOFFICERS-unsubscribe-request@lists.usna.edu. Again you will receive a confirmation email.
For those who need to send directly to the TADs, it then becomes: TADOFFICERS@lists.usna.edu
Special Info for Marines
All newly commissioned Marines detach from USNA upon graduation, and following graduation leave (basket), join Marine Barracks Washington (MBW).
Upon reporting to MBW after graduation leave, all administrative control is gained & maintained by MBW and the Marine Corps, while operational control is maintained by their TAD dept & USNA while they are here in a TAD status.
All leave is administratively approved (upon receipt of USNA dept approval) by the MarDet and MBW.
The MarDet handles all fitness reports, and we carry them all on our morning report.
And probably the biggest difference for our new Marines - graduation leave MUST be used immediately after graduation. They are not provided with a 90-day window like the Navy.
Before assignments are made, how do I request a specific TAD assignment?
If your class date is more than 30 days (plus proceed/transit) after graduation then you can expect a TAD assignment at USNA (UIC 00161).
Marines must take basket leave before reporting for TAD.
This year many SWOs will be able to TAD before reporting for school.
Delayed graduates are not considered TADs; they remain attached to the Brigade until delayed graduation.
TAD assignments will remain here at USNA. There is no logistics support or funding for off-Yard TAD.
Exceptions include voluntary grad-ed, NAPS, and CNA interns (you will know who you are).
Non-local, no-cost TAD elsewhere is against USNA and Navy policy.
Priority billets will be filled first to support USNA's summer programs.
These include, but are not limited to: NAPS, Sailing, PE, Naval Academy Summer Programs (NASP), Powered Flight Program (PFP), Admissions, Training, Plebe Summer Admin, Chaplains, LEAD, and CMDT Facilities.
These departments are projected to account for nearly 80% of all TADs this year.
If you would like to learn more and TAD with a department then please socialize it with the work center's TAD supervisor. They best know the nature of the roles within their organization and any planning constraints, especially if it affects when you can take basket leave.
Supervisors will submit by-name requests to me directly.
The contact list for the various work center TAD supervisors will be updated automatically with any changes going forward.
For Physical Education roles specifically, there are two bins. If you are interested in working with a team, please socialize through the respective coaches. They will consolidate requests, rank, and provide to PE leadership. For those interested in general PE support, including Plebe Summer roles, please reach out to their coordinator.
NAPS is another unique case. Those from the area around Newport and Supply candidates often fill the Assistant Company Officer and Coaching roles. Please reach out to Maj Koch and myself if interested in this special opportunity.
If you have no preference, then no action is required on your part. We will find you a suitable job based on available billets & your dates.
