Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) regulates air activity in Chile, and drone or RPAS operations have two applicable aeronautical regulations DAN 151 and DAN 91 .
Commercial operators must have an RPAS remote pilot credential, a DRC registration card and DGAC authorization.
CREDENTIALS
The person must have a Remote Pilot Credential to operate in populated areas. For this, the applicant must:
1) Have reached eighteen years of age.
2) Submit an affidavit before a notary to have received theoretical and practical instruction regarding the RPAS model to fly.
3) Pass a written exam on DAN 151, DAN 91 and Meteorology and Aerodynamics. The minimum qualification to pass will be 75%.
Likewise, to fly a RPAS the operator must:
INSCRIPTION OF THE DRONE
The drone must be registered and certified by the DGAC. For this, the drone registration request must be made with the following information:
Once the RPAS has been registered, the DGAC will give the owner a registration card.
PERMISSION TO OPERATE IN POPULATED ZONES
Any natural or juridical person who has the inscriptions and credentials indicated above and who wishes to operate a drone of these characteristics, must obtain prior authorization from the DGAC.
Said authorization will be granted for each operation as long as it is an activity of public interest, such as, for example, flights associated with photographic shots or filming of social communication media, state agencies or in situations of catastrophe.
According to the DAN 91, only small drones weighing up to 750 grams, made of expanded polyethylene or equivalent material, intended for private or recreational use, may operate in private areas without authorization from the DGAC, as long as they do not operate more than 50 meters of height on the obstacle or building of greater height of the zone. In this case, the operator must respond to any third party damage caused during the flight. (See Chapter A, point 91.102).
RPAS flight that takes place in non-populated areas does not require registration of the drone or obtain an operator's credential. It is enough to gain DGAC authorization.
