BALAYAN

BALAYAN

BALAYAN is the Social Development Office of the University of St. La Salle. Founded in 1987, it is one of the institution’s concrete responses to its commitment towards social reform and transformation.

Through the years, Balayan has committed itself towards the building of self-reliant, empowered and sustainable communities rooted in Christian values. It has been engaged in a variety of programs and services geared towards uplifting the poor and deprived sectors of society. It also takes the lead role in raising the social consciousness of the Lasallian community and making them involved in community development efforts. Balayan implements the in-reach and outreach programs.

The in-reach programs are:

- volunteer formation,

- social awareness and advocacy,

- institutional community extension and Christian service learning program.

The outreach programs/projects are:

- The GK community development program,

- One Million Trees and Beyond/Project Carbon Neutral

- Busog Lusog Talino in Bago City

It utilizes its GIS capacity in program planning and development. Two years ago, it has phased out from its community development program with the fisherfolk and women partners in Cauayan, Negros Occidental although it continues to be the consultant in the livelihood development and organizational concerns of the partners.
