The Artists' Hub

The Artists’ Hub was created with the objectives to expose the LaSallian community to the different art forms for cultural awareness and appreciation and provide opportunities for the development of the creative talents of students

  • De Lasalle chorale: The DE LA SALLE CHORALE (DLSC) is a hardworking and successful institutional club that brings pride to the University of St. La Salle and the Negrense community at large. The group strives to become a positive force in the evolution and advocacy of choral music, as an art form, by exploring through collaborative and innovative performances; fostering valuable intergenerational experiences; cultivating educational opportunities, and working towards musical excellence, that is, altogether geared towards the accomplishment of the ultimate goal of providing a meaningful, life-changing impact on the lives of choristers themselves, the audiences, and ghe communities across the nation and beyond.

  • Grupo Letras Y Figuras: which literally means “letters and figures”, is an art style that took place in the late 19th century in the Philippines, when new patrons of the visual art were established with the onset of the rice and sugar crop boom. Aside from the portraitures done for well-off families, the Grupo Letras Y Figuras also connote the status of a family during the epoch. It is usually depicted on paper using watercolor. The Grupo Letras Y Figuras then depicts the name of the patron and showcases his/her lifestyle through forming the individual letter of the patron’s name itself. The visual arts group, originally dubbed as the Artists’ Guild, opted to adopt the name since it embodies the distinct trait of the Philippine arts despite influences of the Spanish art scene. The GRUPO LETRAS Y FIGURAS aims for uniqueness without totally disregarding possible influences of the current art scene.

Elsie Yelo-Enriquez founded the La Salle College Dance Troupe in 1973. A few years later, Marivic Misa-Fontanilla took over from her, ‘jazzed up’ the troupe’s mainly folk dance repertoire which led to the birth of the Kariktan Dance Ensemble (KDE). Ably following her mentor, Gloria Torres-De Oca took charge of KDE until June 1999 when Rene Hinojales, the present Artistic Director/Moderator, renamed the ensemble Jean-Baptisté Dance Company (JBDC) in honor of St. John Baptist De La Salle. In 2012, Baldo Defensor ably took over the helm of the Company maintaining its course so that today, the JBDC is known for its wide variety of dance styles and techniques ranging from classical to modern, ballroom to folk, and hip-hop to jazz.
