Each semester, Ben offers drop-in academic advising for students - first-years, new transfers, and those who are unable to connect with their assigned faculty adviser.
Students are directed to the SOM UG Office for academic advising (except for Accounting, Business Analytics, and Hospitality Management majors). In preparation for registration, they are assigned a Canvas course to complete.
Students are assigned faculty advisers prior to the start of their second year. In preparation for registration, they are assigned a Canvas course to complete.
Juniors and Seniors are directed to their faculty adviser for advising but the SOM UG Office is available to assist students who need immediate help or cannot get in touch with their adviser.
Ben is the primary adviser for first-semester transfer students. After their first semester, transfer students are assigned a faculty adviser in their major.
To prepare students for registration, Ben sends first and second-years a Canvas course with a corresponding quiz.
In addition to the Canvas courses for students, we also prepare documents for faculty to reference while advising.
Change of Academic Program (CoAP) e-forms are submitted throughout the year; our office reassigns them to an appropriate faculty adviser in their major.
Our office reassigns all first-year (over summer) and first-semester transfer students (January/over summer) to a faculty adviser in their major.
The SOM UG Office hosts several advising events each semester including: Late Registration Advising, Advise-A-Thon, Registration Week, and Webtrack Advising.
In addition to working with faculty advisers and chairs, Ben consistently works with several departments across campus including:
The Office of Admissions: Point of contact for the Office of Admission regarding all prospective, admitted, and deposited SOM students.
CASA (Center for Academic and Student Achievement): Supports Associate Dean Deanna Pachinger and Academic Success Coaches. Consults with the Academic Disqualification Committee regarding disqualified SOM students when necessary.
ISSS (International Student & Scholar Services): Completes OPT Adviser Recommendation, Program Extension, and Reduced Course Load Request forms for international SOM students.
Center for Global Education: Preliminary and intermediate advising for all SOM students planning to study abroad.
