The Expanded Core Curriculum or ECC is a disability-specific curriculum for children with vision impairments. It covers nine designated areas that children with vision impairments miss because of their vision loss. Expanded Core is not a replacement to academic curriculum. It is equally important in education value.
The teacher for students with vision impairments provides guidance and instruction in Expanded Core areas.
Related servers, paraprofessionals, special and general education teachers also help support Expanded Core instruction. ECC instruction is provided at school, home and the community.
Expanded Core instruction is for students of all abilities and vision impairments. The Expanded Core is taught differently than core curriculum. Many of the 9 areas of the Expanded Core can be infused into lessons.
It is a nationally recognized curriculum for students with vision impairments.
The Expanded Core Services Division provides a wide variety of support, programs and professional development for students, teachers and parents. All programs are free of charge. All services are for students of all abilities.

The Expanded Core High School Readiness Checklist is for students to be competent in high school. The road to high school success starts in preschool. Students who are engaged in rigorous high school level work can then focus on the road to success in college or the workforce.
The Expanded Core High School Readiness Checklist is divided into three grade bands:
Preschool & kindergarten
First through fourth grades
Fifth through eighth grades
The Expanded Core High School Readiness Checklist is free. Get your copy here!
Students are encouraged to participate in the daily Expanded Core Daily Challenges. Students can practice an Expanded Core skill five days a week. Each challenge is offered by a professional. The Daily Challenge was designed to empower students with vision impairments to take charge of the life they want to live. Check it out!
