AKWAABA to ghana!

(SUNDAY 3/5)

AKWAABA TO GHANA!  We made it!

Twenty-six hours after I left my house in Lawrence, I landed in Accra, Ghana, with the other Fulbright exchange teachers.  Actually, all but two of them made it.  One got re-routed through Paris and finally made it (but her bag is still in Paris, maybe?) and the other teacher was delayed by a whole day.  It was already mid-afternoon in Ghana when we arrived, so we just checked in at the hotel, had a briefing from our country host, Gideon, and enjoyed a lovely dinner together.  "Akwaaba" means "welcome" in one of the local indigenous languages, Twi (Ghana has about 70 indigenous languages but the national language is English) and we certainly had a warm welcome (in both senses of the word, LOL☀️)! Here are some sights from my first hours in Africa!

Akwaaba!

Gideon is the Senior Inspector for the National Schools Inspectorate Authority

Above on the left is the Jubilee Palace, the presidential palace, below it is the National Theater, which is across the street from our hotel.  Our hotel is *very nice* and is filled with beautiful Ghanian artwork.  The food is an incredible buffet that includes many traditional foods.
