BCI Laborer

This is a great job for a graduating senior who is looking for a career in the construction industry, with a starting wage of $18 per hour plus the benefits outlined below. This position has room for advancement; the person could become a carpenter, equipment operator or millwright.
Many Bettis Contractors field employees have been with the company since its start over 10 years ago, with some of them making $35/hr. to $55/hr. when they travel out of town for work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and
procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task
• Properly follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working
procedures and environment
• Report any problems to foreman
• Follow directions of manager as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific
project or job site
• May be called upon to run small power tools such as jack hammer
• Lift, carry and hold materials, tools and supplies
• Must be willing to travel

Flagger – Traffic Control
Job Summary
The selected candidate will be required to work in a team environment with other co-workers and managers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task
· Properly follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment
· Be physically able, mentally alert, and capable of giving directions to the motoring public
· Guide traffic safely through the work area
· Protect the lives of workers
· Avoid unreasonable delays to motorists
· Answer motoring public questions courteously and intelligently
· Wear approved safety apparel for flagging such as hard hat and safety vest while flagging
· Maintain a clean and neat appearance and will not distract motorists
· Must be able to safely drive a car and/or pickup guiding traffic through construction zone
· Report any problems to manager
· Assist construction/paving crew with various duties such as: shoveling and raking and running wheelbarrow
· Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials
· Follow directions of manager as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or job site
· May be called upon to run small power tools such as jack hammer
· Dig, spread and level construction materials
· Lift, carry and hold materials, tools and supplies
· Assist in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other traffic control devices

Paid Internship Opportunity
Title: Summer Tree Crew Groundsman Intern
Internship Date: May 20th – August 9th
Location: One Intern in Topeka; One Intern in McLouth
Reports to: ROW Superintendent
Pay Rate: $14.00
Primary Accountability:
The Summer Tree Crew/Groundsman Intern assists with right-of-way clearing and spraying in a safe and professional manner, and in accordance with the system requirements, to ensure quality electric service.
Essential Duties:
• Assists with all right-of-way activities that can be accomplished safely from the ground level.
• Assists with right-of-way activities from an aerial lift, or rope and saddle on non-energized portions of the system under the direct supervision of a Tree Trimmer, Lead Trimmer or Tree Foreman.
• Permitted to work aloft around secondary voltage maintaining a 10ft separation from conductors while under the direct supervision of a Tree Trimmer, Lead Trimmer, or Tree Foreman.
• Assists with trimming and cutting operations necessary for right-of-way control.
• Assists with applying chemicals under the direction of the Foreman or designated supervisor, using recommended techniques and precautions.
Qualifications:
• Candidate must be at least (16) years of age and have a valid driver’s license.
Physical Demands:
• Frequently requires talking, hearing, standing, walking, pulling/pushing, reaching, crawling, squatting, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, lifting, and good hand/finger dexterity.
• Frequently lifts and/or moves up to seventy-five (75) pounds; occasionally may be required to lift and/or move up to one hundred and twenty-five (125) pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth
perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Limited exposure to chemicals, oil, gasoline and dirt as long as proper Personal Protective Equipment is used, and Safety Rules are followed.
Work Environment:
• Frequently exposed to high, precarious places, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, and risk of electrical hazards.
• Exposure to poison oak, ivy and sumac is likely.
• Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles and vibration.
• Moderate noise level.
• Regular, reliable attendance is required.
